HARRIETT LOUISE NANCE

Second wife of my Great-Great-Grandfather, Albert V. Shelton.
This photo was provided by my third cousin - Vonette Curtis.
THANK YOU, VONETTE!

Harriett Louise Nance was born on July 11, 1877 in Hopkins county, Kentucky to Allen Nance. I do not know who her mother was. Harriett was called "Hattie". She married on March 12, 1908 to Albert V. Shelton, a widower with one son to raise. Hattie and Albert crossed the state line in order to get married in Vanderburgh county, Indiana. Hattie is quoted as having said that this was the first time she had ever been to Indiana. (Newspaper article)

Hattie never had children of her own, but helped Albert to raise his son, Winfred, along with his niece, Lula, and his nephew Joseph Finley, who went by the name of Finley (Joseph and Lula were both the children of Albert's sister, Agnes who died in 1927.)

In 1958, Hattie became a widow - Albert passed away on July 17th. He was buried in the Springdale Cemetery in Sebree, Webster county, Kentucky next to his first wife, Nora. Hattie lived on until April 28th of 1964 when she herself passed on. She, too, is buried in the Springdale Cemetery in Sebree, Webster county, Kentucky on the other side of her Albert.

(NOTE FROM AUNT LOUISE: My Aunt Louise was named for her mother Nellie and Harriett Louise. Thus, my Aunt Louise's name is Nellie Louise.)
