Sarah J. Winstead was born on November 30th, 1836, according to her headstone. Her parents are unknown, at this time. No marriage record has been found yet, but she married Joseph Zealot Shelton, son of Josiah Cyrus Shelton and Mary Elizabeth Orran(who is believed to be full-blooded Cherokee).
On the 27th day of November in 1856, Joseph and Sarah had a baby girl, Mildred Shelton. About 10-1/2 months later, they lost her. Her dates were taken from her headstone.
On October 10th, of 1859, they had another daughter, Mary E. Shelton, who was listed in the 1860 Webster county, Kentucky Federal census with them. This daughter is listed as Sarah E. Sarah J. Winstead Shelton passed away on March 30th, 1865, leaving behind a husband and daughter to mourn her passing.
