This is a copy of a photograph that my cousin, Vonette, sent to me of
my Great-grandfather, Albert V. Shelton.Albert was born to Lucinda Shelton November 14th, 1862 in Webster
County, Kentucky. His father is still unknown.
Albert married Nora Berry on September 21st, 1885 in Webster County, Kentucky. Albert and Nora had five children born to them. Three died in infancy, one died very young, a daughter, Lee, lived to marry when she was 14, then died 2 weeks later from complications of the birth. Albert and Nora had one child that survived to adulthood: Winfred Cleveland Shelton. Nora must have had it very hard. She had to watch 4 children being buried, and worry over the last remaining child. Albert was a farmer and a Sunday school teacher and a Deacon.
Albert joined the Sebree General Baptist Church in 1887. In 1951, he was the eldest member of the church at the age of 91. Albert was named Sunday School Superintendant in 1891. He had taught Sunday school for 55 years. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1908 and served as clerk of the church since 1890.
Albert lost his wife, Nora, in 1905 to Tuberculosis. He met and married Harriet L. Nance, who helped him raise his remaining child, and several nieces and nephews, and his grandson. Albert died on July 17th, 1958 in Sebree, Webster county, Kentucky.
Photo was taken about 1915. Original is owned by my Aunt Louise.
