In the suit brought by Wm. Marshall and his wife against JOHN KING, Gent. in an action of detinue damage 300 pounds for detaining several negroes from the plf as is set forth in the plf decirand. A jury impanneled and sworn. We find that Eliza, the wife of Wm. Marshall, one of the plaintiffs, is the only child of Wm. Merritt, eldest brother to Mary, late wife of JOHN KING, the deft. We find that Mary Taylor was seized and possessed of seven slaves, etc. We find that Mary is dead and she never had any issue. We also find that Mary was the wife of Captain Daniel Taylor, deceased, and when a sole possessed all the negroes in the decir by virtue of the last will and testament. We find by the oath of Madm. Wallace that she had heard Mary in her last sickness say she had never made over any negroes to Mr. KING, etc. Ordered that Mr. JOHN KING, Gent. pay to Bard Cowart for four days attendance as evidence against William Marshall and being 12 miles distance from his own house in Poquoson in York County and for his coming twice. Mr. James Schlater being as an evidence fro Poquoson in York County for JOHN KING, Gent. agt WM. Marshall. Ordered that he be paid for three days attendance being twelve miles distance, etc. Ordered JNO. KING, Gent pay to Edward Tabb for three days attendance, etc. 1719 - 1720 An account of Marriage Licenses- JOHN KING and Reba. Armistead 1721, Jun. - JOHN KING, Gent presented a Commission to be Sheriffe of this County. At the motion of JOHN KING, sheriff, JOHN KING, Jr. and Robert Armistead, Jr. having taken usual oaths now sworn his under Sheriffs.
