A will of Mr. MICHAEL KING Senior of the County of Nansemond in the Colony
 of Virginia proved by the subscription of William Early and the oath of
John Early.

On petition of William Early and John Early ordered that Mr. JOHN KING pay
to William Early and John Early for their travel and attendance for 2 days
with costs alias execution.

Mr. JOHN KING proved his right to 450 acres by the importation of Jno.
Mason, Jno. Howell, MICHAEL KING, Henry Hill, Wm. Stevens, Thos. Porter,
 George Okeham, JOHN KING and John Falkes.

1715, Oct - JOHN KING witnessed the will of Ann Daniell. Will was
probated Aug 1716 by JOHN KING, Gentleman.

1716, Feb. - JOHN KING one of his Majesties Justices.

Mr. JOHN KING, Undertaker, is to build a Paire of Stocks, Pillory and
Whipping Post  according to the pattern of them at Williamsborough, the
finding iron works and what else convenient and to build a Ducking Stoole
to goe upon three wheeles Three foot High to the Liking of the Court for
all which he is to have 8 pounds in money.

Gent ack their deeds to William Bosell for the celler under the Courthouse.

1716, June - JOHN KING one of his Majesties Justices.

1717, April - Court represents to his honor Alexander Spotswood, his
Majesties Lt. Gov. and Commander in Chief of the Colony of Virginia .,
Capt. Wm. Bosell, Mr. John Bayley, Mr. JOHN KING to be fit and proper
persons to be High Sheriffe of Elizabeth City County for the preceeding
year.

1718, Aug. - Mr. JOHN KING one of Justices

1719, May - Mr. JOHN KING one of Justices.

Ordered that JOHN KING, Gent be paid 8 pounds according to the agreement
for making the Ducking Stool etc. who has the money in his hands.

1719, Jul. - Mr. JOHN KING one of Justices.

In the suit brought by Wm. Marshall and his wife against JOHN KING, Gent.
in an action of detinue damage 300 pounds for detaining several negroes
from the plf as is set forth in the plf decirand. A jury impanneled and
sworn. We find that Eliza, the wife of Wm. Marshall, one of the plaintiffs,
 is the only child of Wm. Merritt, eldest brother to Mary, late wife of
JOHN KING, the deft. We find that Mary Taylor was seized and possessed of
seven slaves, etc.

We find that Mary is dead and she never had any issue. We also find that
 Mary was the wife of Captain Daniel Taylor, deceased, and when a sole
possessed all the negroes in the decir by virtue of the last will and
testament.

We find by the oath of Madm. Wallace that she had heard Mary in her last
sickness say she had never made over any negroes to Mr. KING, etc.

Ordered that Mr. JOHN KING, Gent. pay to Bard Cowart for four days
attendance as evidence against William Marshall and being 12 miles
distance from his own house in Poquoson in York County and for his
coming twice.

Mr. James Schlater being as an evidence fro Poquoson in York County for
JOHN KING, Gent. agt WM. Marshall. Ordered that he be paid for three days
attendance being twelve miles distance, etc.

Ordered JNO. KING, Gent pay to Edward Tabb for three days attendance, etc.

1721, Jun. - JOHN KING, Gent presented a Commission to be Sheriffe of this
County.

At the motion of JOHN KING, sheriff, JOHN KING, Jr. and Robert Armistead,
Jr. having taken usual oaths now sworn his under Sheriffs.
