KING ANCESTORS IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR

Introduction: this list of men with the King surname who fought in the Revolu- tionary War originally appeared in "The King Quarterly". The list started with the DAR Patriot Index and the DAR Pension list. In addition, I noted everyone identified by authors of King Family histories as having been in the Revolutionary War. I searched the 1840 Pension list and the 1818 pension list and part of the 1832 pension list. I also searched a number of state compendiums of Revolutionary participants found in the library of the Genealogical Forum of Portland Oregon. Since these listings included men not on the DAR listings, I assume that there may be additional men who belong on this list, and would appreciate being informed of any I've missed.

Note that the numbers in this file are not always consecutive. The reason for this is that I published this list over a number of issues of the Quarterly, and I needed some way to refer to a specific individual. The names in this list are alphabetical, which is the way most users will be looking for their men. I felt it was useful to retain the numbers since I still refer to these men by the numbers--this is the order in which I published them.

My purpose on this project was to help people find family connections by (1) trying to identify the line of each patriot, or the name of his father, (2) discovering where the patriot had moved to, and (3) identifying some of his family in later generations, since families often moved together and it is sometimes possible to identify a family line by identifying their King neighbors.

I tried to identify the sources as I went along. I would like to hear from anyone who can supply some of the family for these men.
