SHELTON LINEAGES

3 Shelton families in Pittsylvania County at the end of the 1700's

1. Mark Chilton/Shelton
Mark first shows up in the tax lists of 1785 and is listed as Chelton.

2. Descendants of Ralph and Mary Shelton
The most Sheltons living in Pittsylvania county were the descendants of
Ralph and Mary Shelton. Ralph's lineage can be traced back to the
county of Middlesex in Virginia. Many have attempted to locate the
parentage of Ralph, but have failed so far. Records are difficult to
locate in the late 1600's, early 1700's. Most of the descendants are
listed in the tithables of Pittsylvania county by John Donelson.

3. William Shelton of Dan River
William Shelton first appears in Pittsylvania county via land records.
His descendants lived here for awhile, then moved on to other states.
Most of them going to Eastern Kentucky and settling there. This is the
line that I connect to. William is listed in the tithables taken in
    1767 by John Wilson.
