As I mentioned my genealogy is through William King(15551) who moved from Gates County to Guilford County NC in 1800. The descendants of William are the only King lines that I have researched beyond generation 5. I saw that a continuation of my numbering system would be difficult to follow beyond five generations so I changed it. What I did was to give William (15551) a number of (W). All that is needed is to know that William(15551) and William(W) are the same person. Keeping this in mind I will list what I know of his descendants, but only those who migrated to Monroe County, TN. I have not researched any of the others.

Children of William King(15551) alias William King(W)
bulletHENRY L. KING(W1) - the oldest son was born 10 October 1796 in Gates County, NC and moved with his parents to Guilford County, NC in 1800. He married Elizabeth Hawkins, daughter of John and Elizabeth Hawkins 25 March 1820 in Guilford County. He moved to Monroe County, TN in 1823 where he died 20 September 1855.
bulletWILLIAM KING(W2) - b. 1801 in Guilford County
bulletJOHN KING(W3) - m. Eliza Garrett 29 December 1821 in Guilford County. He is not later found in the records of Guilford County and it is likely that he also moved to Tennessee.
bulletSOLOMON KING(W4) - remained in Guilford County.
bulletALFRED KING(W5) - moved to McMinn County, TN in 1823. (This is the ancestor of Reba Wilson and Betty Glover)
bulletCALVIN KING(W6) - m. Ruth Donnell 1 January 1831 in Guilford County. Was living in Monroe County, TN in 1850 with his brother Henry L. King(W1).
GENERATION SIX - HENRY L. KING(W1)

Henry L. King(W1), oldest son of William King(W) and wife Abigail Lee was born 10 October 1796 in Gates County, NC and moved with his parents to Guilford County in 1800. He married Elizabeth Hawkins, daughter of Elizabeth and John Hawkins, 25 March 1820 in Guilford County, NC and moved to Monroe County, TN in 1823. He first lived on land bordering on Natchy Creek about 5 miles east of Madisonville, the County seat of Monroe County. He later sold this land and in 1852 purchased land near the towns of Tellico Plains and Jalappa. He sold the two tracts to his son John Hawkins King(W11) in 1854 and died 20 September 1855. He is buried in the Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetary. His grave marker which was still visible in the 1930s has since disappeared.

(Henry L King is in 1830, 1840, 1850 Monroe Co TN census. His widow is in the 1860 census also.)

As for the WPA listing of an 1871 birthday for Elizabeth Hawkins King. All the census records indicate that she was born about 1800. The 1800 census record for her parents, John and Elizabeth Hawkins, show them both to be between the ages of 16 and 26. Their only child at that time is a daughter less than 10 years of age who is likely the Elizabeth who married Henry L. King. She could be an older sister. In any event she could not possibly have been born in 1781 as she would be as old as her parents. I have examined the surviving markers at the Shady Grove Baptist Church and some are indeed difficult to read. Many are no longer in place.
