Other than the Bible entry the only references to Nathan King are found in land records. In 1694 he patented 635 acres of land "along old Mr. Kings line". The land adjoined previous grants to his father. On the same day he also patented 65 acres of land at a different location - at the junction of Chowan River and Somerton Creek. Although originally in Virginia the land was entirely within North Carolina after the boundary between the two colonies was established in 1728. The land has been located rather precisely using metes and bounds found in the patent granting it.
It is not possible to determine how long Nathan lived on this land. A deposition made in 1707 has the wording "the deponent further saith that about 12 years ago Nathan King took up a piece of land lying opposite to the mouth of said river". A Virginia patent to William Butler in 1717 has the wording "bounding on Nathan Kings line". After the boundary was finally established in 1728 a North Carolina patent was issued for the land adjoining the patent to Nathan King in 1694. This patent has the wording "beginning at John Ellisons alias Nathan Kings corner, a broken red oak, then running along Kings line". It is difficult to determine if he was still living on the land at this time. This is the last reference to Nathan King. He does not later appear in records of this area, however there is the possibility that he moved further west.
