George Clark King, b 20 Jul 1797-Birtie Co NC, d 20 Oct 1840-Summerfield, Dallas,AL. He was the son of John King and Amelia Slade. He married 12 Jul 1817-Wilmingtan, NC, to Elizabeth Byrd, daughter of Edward R Byrd. After settling the estate of Edward Byrd and wife, George and Elizabeth set aut far Nashville, TN, taking with them a son and two daughers of Edward Byrd. Amelia Sturdivant, whose account of the family is available in the surname file at the Alabama Archives, mentions her great aunt, Jacqueline Byrd, who drove one of the wagons. In one place the went through a river, the family Bible got wet and mildewed, destroying all the family data.
The family lived near Nashville for about two vears, then to Perry Co AL in 1819. It appears to me from the papers submitted to Alabama Archives that he moved to Dallas Co AL during the earlv 1830s.
